My last book of photography of the Thousand Islands had to be the very best, both in content and quality. With 30,000 images to select from, these are definitely my favorites. A global search finally found a printer capable of producing pages with the same lustrous gloss as high-end book covers. In every way, the resulting "book of covers" is my very best. Volume IV, 1000 Islands is a smaller booklet that was intended to raise the bar on quality for this type of publication. Apparently it was successful, winning a Premier Print “Benny” Award in the graphic arts industry’s largest and most prestigious worldwide printing competition.

Volume III When The 1000 Islands sold out three extremely large printings in a very small area, Diane Francis, an author and prominent journalist advised me; “Better watch out, you always end up owning your last print run.” I took heed and because I had many new images to share, produced a new book, The Thousand Islands in the same format.

Volume II, Water, Wind and Sky was crafted with help from my much missed friend, professor emeritus and historian Paul Malo - "Mr. Thousand Islands." Its intent was more to please residents than casual tourists so it shares more of the 1000 Islands' countless mystical moods, with slightly less focus on the icons like Boldt Castle, Singer Castle and the lighthouses.

Volume I My most treasured book, The Picturesque St. Lawrence River was published in 1895 in the highest quality format technology of the day allowed. It was inspirational to me for The 1000 Islands, which I hoped might also be prized a hundred years on with a padded hard cover, spot gloss against matte, gold foil and end sheets with maps that show where every picture was taken. Now sold out, I could not have imagined that copies have already been bid up to as much as $400 on eBay. Sample images (Limited Quantity Available). |
